Project Description
As Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harry Kalaba played an important facilitative role in the government-to-government engagements that led to the signing of the contract for the construction of the Kenneth Kaunda Wing at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
The project formed part of Zambia’s preparations to host the African Union (AU) Summit, and required strengthened diplomatic collaboration to secure financing and implementation support from the Chinese government. In his portfolio, Kalaba coordinated key negotiations, helped guide the bilateral discussions, and ensured that Zambia’s strategic interests were reflected in the final cooperation framework.
His involvement contributed to the creation of a modern extension to MICC—later named the Kenneth Kaunda Wing—which expanded the country’s conference-hosting capacity and enhanced Zambia’s readiness for major continental and international events. The facility ultimately became a significant symbol of Zambia–China development partnership and an important asset for national diplomacy and economic conferencing.
