During his service as Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harry Kalaba played a facilitative diplomatic role in the processes that led to the signing of the contract for the construction of the new Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka.

The project was part of Zambia’s strategic effort to modernize national aviation infrastructure and strengthen its status as a regional transport hub. Working within his ministry, Kalaba helped coordinate bilateral engagement with the Chinese government, ensuring that the airport development was secured under existing cooperation frameworks. His participation supported negotiations, alignment of financing commitments, and the formalization of the agreement.

The new KKIA—featuring an expanded passenger terminal, upgraded systems, and enhanced cargo facilities—became one of the country’s landmark infrastructure investments. Kalaba’s contribution helped pave the way for successful implementation by ensuring strong diplomatic backing and smooth collaboration between both governments.
