Project Description

While serving as Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harry Kalaba played a facilitative role in the government-to-government engagements that enabled the signing of the contract for the expansion of Maina Soko Military Hospital in Lusaka.

The expansion project formed part of national efforts to modernize health and military medical services with support from international partners. In his diplomatic capacity, Kalaba helped coordinate negotiations, strengthen bilateral cooperation with the Chinese government, and ensure that the agreement aligned with Zambia’s broader health-sector development goals.

The project enhanced Maina Soko’s capacity to provide advanced medical care, including specialised services, benefiting both military personnel and civilians. Kalaba’s involvement contributed to securing the partnership and resources necessary for the hospital’s transformation into a modern defence medical institution.

Today Maina Soko has increased capacity that makes it the preferred hospital for VVIP as well as for military personnel and civilian patients.
